Networking Tools and Collections

Maybe it’s because there are just so many of them, just like build-essentials, networking tools are usually distributed in the form of program collections. Among these collections, the most important ones include net-tools (arp, ifconfig, hostname, netstat, etc.), bind-tools (DNS related tools such as dig and nslookup, a.k.a. bind-utils or just bind), busybox-extras (telnet for Alpine Linux), iproute2 (ss, ip, route, etc.), etc. One thing to note, though, is that different Linux distributions may use different names for these collections (packages), and what I’m trying to say here is that, don’t get frustrated if apt get ss doesn’s work.
